Moxa

Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which a combination of chinese herbs called Mugwort are burned and placed at the end of an acupuncture needle or close to the skin.

The Moxa is mainly applied by heating a stick made of the Moxa but loose Moxa can also be used and your acupuncturist will make cone like shapes with the Moxa.

What can it treat?

Moxa is used for; pain due to injury or arthritis, gynaecological problems such as fertility or breech presentation in late term pregnancy and protection against cold and flu.

What does it do?

Clients will feel a warming feeling as the heat goes down the needle towards the skin. Moxa is used to warm and invigorate the flow of Qi in the body and dispel certain pathogenic influences.

It is used to help circulation and help release tension in tight muscles. This method can be very relaxing and soothing. Moxa can be used on its own but is generally used in conjunction with acupuncture.
